In shelters across the nation, million of animals are awaiting adoption. They’ve faced homelessness and worse, but that doesn’t mean they’re any less capable of loyal companionship.
According to its website, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) approximates that “7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.9 million are dogs and 3.4 million are cats.” Of those shelter animals, 31 percent of dogs and 41 percent of cats are euthanized.
Dogs enter shelters for any number of reasons; sometimes their owners simply cannot afford their care any longer, some have been without a proper home their entire lives, and others suffer conditions like mange that are easily remedied with the right medical attention (some, like a Vet Ranch rescue named Scrappy rescued from death’s row, require treatments as simple as a medicated shampoo).
And that’s what making the following video from the Dodo, the people who brought us Pit Bulls Who Match Their Guinea Pigs (so cute), so heartwarming — these dogs just found out that they’re being adopted. They won’t have to live in confined cages any longer, they won’t have to wonder who’s showing up next, and they will finally, finally have a forever home.
