Frantic parents search for missing children, police dog Bane does the job in 15 minutes

Our four-legged friends help us in so many ways. When they’re not being loyal and loving pets, they’re helping to catch the bad guys alongside police officers.

Their superior sense of smell allows them to be trained to work alongside soldiers too, detecting explosives along the paths about to be trodden by soldiers.

When two children went missing in woods in Virginia while playing a game of chase their frantic parents searched for 45 minutes to find them.

When police were alerted, Bane the police dog showed up with officers and it took him just 15 minutes to turn a bad situation around.

A dog’s sense of smell is 40 times greater than ours and they can smell things buried as far as “40 feet underground.”

Parents and neighbors had been looking in the woods but could not find the two eight-year-olds, according to USA Today

When police were called, deputies from Powhatan Sheriff’s Office arrived with K-9 Bane.

After searching the house they then started looking in the woods. In just 15 minutes Bane tracked and located the children.

“As soon as the children were home safe he was back on patrol eager for the next call for service,” said a Powhatan Sheriff’s Office Facebook post praising this incredible dog.

Powhatan Sheriff’s Office

Maintaining a K-9 program is expensive and very time consuming and that is why many agencies the size of the Powhatan Sheriff’s Office do not have one. But incidents like last night’s two 8 year old children being lost in the woods are why the Sheriff keeps the program going strong.

Parents and neighbors had valiantly been searching the woods for the children for 45 minutes in the failing daylight when the call was made to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies (including K-9 Bane) joined the effort in short order. Within 15 minutes of K-9 Bane entering the woods he was able to track and locate the children. As soon as the children were home safe he was back on patrol eager for the next call for service.

Job well done K-9 Bane!

Please share to pay tribute to this wonderful police dog and all the other dogs that provide such an invaluable service every day.
